The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced on the day before Prince George’s christening that they have chosen seven godparents for their three-month-old son.
Prince George’s seven godparents are Oliver Baker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Earl Grosvenor, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Julia Samuel, William van Cutsem and Zara Tindall, according to the BBC.
Baker is a friend of the royal couple’s from their time at St. Andrews University; Jardine-Paterson was a classmate of the Duchess of Cambridge when she attended Marlborough College; Grosvenor is the Duke of Westminster’s son; Lowther-Pinkerton was a private secretary for the couple for eight years; Samuel was a close friend of Prince William’s mother, the late Princess Diana; van Cutsem has been a friend of William’s since they were children; and Tindall is William’s cousin.
The list of godparents chosen is another break from tradition for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as the couple have chosen personal friends rather than royals. Neither Prince Harry nor Pippa Middleton were chosen to be godparents either, which many people speculated would happen.
The christening is happening on Wednesday, and will be a small affair attended by "close members of both families," reports USA Today. The ceremony will take place in the Chapel Royal at St. James Palace, where Princess Diana lay in the hours before her funeral.
Not much is known about the christening itself or the guest list, but it has been confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip will attend, according to ABC News. Prince George’s grandfather Prince Charles and his wife Camilla will also attend the christening, along with Prince Harry and other members of the royal family.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and her siblings Pippa and James will also be in attendance when Prince George is christened by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.
It has not been confirmed if the seven godparents are also on the guest list.
