Former Private Practice star Kate Walsh will be returning to television in FX’s Fargo limited series, based on the 1996 Coen brothers film. She joins an already star-studded cast that includes Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton.
Walsh has been cast as Gina, a trophy wife who is, much to her chagrin, the mother of two children, notes Deadline, whcih first confirmed the news. Since Private Practice ended, Walsh has worked on Neil LaBute’s DirecTV series Full Circle, which premieres this fall. She has also taken film roles in Staten Island Summer and Dermaphoria.
Joey King also joined the cast, playing the child of Colin Hanks’ police deputy character. Josh Close (The Unusuals, The Master) also joined the cast on Wednesday.
Thornton was the first to join the highly anticipated, 10-episode series in August. Earlier this month, Freeman, Hanks and Oliver Platt joined. Writer Noah Hawley, Warren Littlefield, and Geyer Kosinski are executive producing.
Fargo will be a FX and MGM TV co-production. Joel and Ethan Coen, whose original film won the Oscar for best original screenplay, are involved as executive producers. It’s not clear when the series will air, but it will be FX’s first limited series.
