More trouble for the Jackson family has surfaced now that it’s been revealed Quincy Jones is suing the late singer’s estate for $10 million.
Jones filed the lawsuit on Friday, claiming he is entitled to millions of dollars worth of royalties after working with Jackson on some of the biggest hits of his career. Jones is also suing Sony Music Entertainment, claiming they edited songs to avoid paying him production fees and royalties.
"To the best of its knowledge, Mr. Jones has been appropriately compensated over approximately 35 years for his work with Michael," Jackson’s estate said in a statement after learning of the lawsuit, The AP reports.
Jones, whose work with Jackson is featured in the film This Is It as well as Cirque du Soleil shows, is asking to be compensated for the work he did with Jackson on the three albums Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad.
In the lawsuit, he asks for documents that outline the profits made off of the songs so he can determine whether or not he has been appropriately compensated. He's also suing Sony for re-editing songs because he claims part of his contract states that he's the first to get the right to re-edit the songs.
Meanwhile, the man convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Jackson, Conrad Murray, has been released from jail after serving two years.
