I was recently invited to visit the French restaurant Paname on 2nd Avenue in NYC. Though I have never dined in France, I imagine this is what it would be like. Paname sets a romantic mood with fresh flowers at each table, candlelight, French music and art on the walls.
The meal began with a little hors d'oeuvre on the house, a cheese tart. This was followed by a bread basket filled with a warm, crispy French baguette. They also have a decent wine list from which my boyfriend and I tried the rosé.
The menu includes classic dishes like escargots and bouillbaisse. For the appetizer, we went for a more familiar dish, crab cakes, which were excellent, with a generous amount of crab in each cake.
The shrimp cocktail was basic and good. We also tried the portobello mushroom. I am not typically a fan but topped with balsamic and mozzarella, it made for a nice combo.
Each entree we ordered was a work of art on the plate. I ordered the special, a tasty Mahi mahi in mustard sauce.
The location is a little off the beaten path but, if you feel like a little French charm it worth the visit.
