Rihanna has said Princess Diana is a big inspiration behind her own style, calling the late Princess of Whales’ fashion choices “gangsta.”
The 25-year-old pop star said of Diana, “She killed it. Every look was right. She was gangsta with her clothes,” according to Toronto Sun.
Just how was the princess gangsta, you ask? Rihanna explains, “She had these crazy oversized jackets. I loved everything she wore.”
Some of Rihanna’s favorite fashion pieces include bikinis, fishnet stockings, and crop tops, according to Metro. Diana’s wardrobe was based on glamorous 80s dresses often featuring padded shoulders, dainty polka dots, and sparkles.
Although their fashion choices may not really overlap as much as Rihanna would like to think, one could certainly say Rihanna is a princess in her own regard.
Earlier this year, Camille Paglia, a 66-year-old social critic and feminist, actually compared Rihanna and Diana, saying they both have a “ravishingly seductive flirtation” with paparazzi.
