Bad girl Rihanna really likes her tattoos; last year she got an inspirational Egyptian goddess Iris tattoo under her breast for her grandmother that she lost. Now she went under the needle for a brand new tattoo. In order for that to happen, she went out of her way to get her tattoo artists all the way to the Dominican Republic just to get the job done.
Bang Bang NYC tattoo shop artists Bang Bang McCurdy and Cally-Jo told E! News that Rihanna indeed flew them all the way to the Dominican Republic last weekend, so that they could use a large, henna-inspired design to enhance the previous job that was done on her hand in New Zealand.
The New-York city shop was 1500 miles away from where Rihanna was, but she needed the job to get done, so she arranged them a flight over.
McCurdy said “We drew on her hand from 7pm to midnight. We were drawing and changing things. I’d take a break and Cally-Jo would draw, then I’d draw… The inspiration was henna art; we wanted something really decorative, feminine and sexy. We thought that was the closest in style where we could shift and make it look decorative.”
“She had something pre-existing on her hand. So it was a little bit of a cover up, but also making it look good, wanted to make sure it flowed. We needed to work with what she already had. Her hand is not something you can put away. We went over and over. It was a struggle to design. She even took a nap when we were drawing. We started over, until we found the direction she liked,” Bang Bang added.
According to Daily Mail it took the designers 11 hours to make the traditional marks pretty. During a show in Puerto Rico, Rihanna showed off her new art work.
