Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook could be back in the lineup within the next two weeks.
Back in April during the Western Conferene playoffs, Westbrook suffered a torn meniscus in his right leg. He has made significant progress in recovering from a second surgery. A six to eight week timetable from Wednesday’s opening night was issued by the Thunder, but he could return by mid-November, according to Yahoo Sports. Westbrook has been participating in practice and has impressed everyone with his return to form.
Westbrook played in all 82 games last season. Last season he averaged 23.2 points and 7.4 assits per game, according to ESPN. In his five-year NBA career, Westbrook hadn’t missed a game until his injury. Reggie Jackson will fill in for Westbrook as the Thunder’s starting point guard, according to Sports Illustrated. Jackson averaged 13.9 points and 3.6 assists when Westbrook was out last season.
The Thunder start their season on Wednesday against the Utah Jazz in Utah.
