Jax attempts his best to console Tara as she lays in bed. He tells her that he'll take the boys to daycare, and then he has to check in with the club before he comes back home. On his way out, Tara asks him what they're going to do about Gemma. Jax says that he'll take care of it, and that Tara shouldn't have to worry about her anymore.
Gemma is still at the station. Roosevelt brings her a cup of coffee and asks Gemma what happened. She says that if it's her word against the good doctor, what does it matter if the truth comes out anyway. Gemma proceeds to tell Roosevelt what happened. She tells the truth, for once. Gemma finishes by speculating that Tara was never pregnant in the first place.
Jax gets to Charming Scoops & Sweets. Everyone asks him how Tara's doing. He appreciates their concern, but tells them that he'll deal with it on his own. Bobby shows Jax the morning paper, prompting Jax to call everyone together for chapel. The headline suggests that local gangs are behind the school shooting.
Patterson shows Nero the same morning paper. She tells him that she's going to make sure the police are sitting on the Biz Lats, making it next to impossible for them to conduct their business, but it will all go away if Nero takes her deal by rolling on the Sons.
Unser swings by Tara's house. He knows that Tara had the plan to have a restraining order on Gemma pre-meditated, and before he can finish asking why, Tara tells him that he doesn't want to know. Unser shows his disappointment in Tara, more or less chastising her for stooping to Gemma's level to get things done.
At chapel above the ice cream shop, Jax expresses his concern more toward the Biz Lats than the police, knowing that the headline in the paper is a ploy by the DA. Jax thinks it's a good idea to reach out to Nero's guys so as to make sure no one on the streets get spooked by what appeared in the papers.
Jax meets with Fiasco, Nero's number two. While the two are talking, Tig eyes a car down the block that's been sitting there the entire time. Jax chalks it up to the police presence that he figured would be increased since the headline. Jax and Fiasco agree that they need to lay low and make sure not to make any mistakes with the microscope on both of their organizations. The Sons go to leave and the car that was staking out the meeting speeds towards them. All of the Sons narrowly get out of the way, but one of the Biz Lats isn't so lucky. He is gruesomely run over by the car, whose driver turns out to be a Latino man, not police as Jax and Tig suspected.
Unser drives Gemma home from the police station. He tells her that her heart is in the right place when it comes to the boys, but there have been so many secrets and so much hate, that the love can't seem to find its way to the surface. Unser tells Gemma that it's not going to be an easy road to recovery for her with Jax and the boys.
Barasky is brought to Patterson's office. The DA gives Barasky a veiled threat by telling him that she's planning on re-districting Stockton, a move that would put the docks under the supervision of the sheriff's office. Barasky can keep his hold on the docks if he looks into a hit & run that occurred that morning, one in which witnesses saw men on motorcycles leaving the scene. Barasky then calls Jax once he leaves Patterson's office. Jax tells his crooked cop friend that he'll find the driver, to which Barasky tells Jax that he'll need the driver to give to Patterson so she'll back off.
Nero is ready to talk to Patterson. First, he makes sure that she can get his son the best care the state can provide. He also wants to make sure he's transferred somewhere close enough so Lucious can visit. Patterson comes back by saying that if Nero cooperates, he won't even be inside. Nero disagrees with that statement. He tells Patterson that it wasn't Jax that provided the KG-9, but that he bought it off a street dealer, then gave it to Darviny Jennings for protection. Nero claims responsibility for the deaths of the boys in the school.
Tara heads to the ice cream shop, looking for Jax, who's not there. Bobby brings her out back, and over a smoke, they chat about by Jax can take SAMCRO away from the illegal stuff and into legitimate business. Bobby assures Tara that Jax is the right man to for the job, that he's the one who can make the Sons of Anarchy whole again. As Tara goes to leave, Bobby asks her not to give up on Jax. He needs her, a lot more than she knows.
Roosevelt brings the report from Toric's hotel room to Patterson. The report shows what Eli expected the entire time: Toric's guilt and Nero's innocence. Patterson says it doesn't matter, that Nero confessed to supplying the gun. Roosevelt and Patterson both know that it was a fake confession, but Patterson is OK with it because it allows her to deliver some justice.
Jax meets up with the guys outside of the address that the hit & run car is registered to. Jax tells the Sons that Barasky needs the driver so he can get Patterson off his back. Before Jax can relay that information to the Biz Lats, they bust into the house, looking for blood. The driver comes at one of the Biz Lats with a knife, slicing him across the shoulder. Jax knocks the man to the ground, and just before Fiasco can pull the trigger, Jax yells at him to stop. Jax picks up a picture that fell off a shelf, and recognizes the boy in the picture as one of the victims from the school shooting, the driver's son. Jax tells Fiasco that the police are already on their way, and that they need to leave. Jax apologizes to the man on his way out.
The police arrive at the house. The man has come to since Tig hit him over the head. He's sitting, holding a picture of his late son in one hand, and the knife in the other. As the police come in and tell him to drop the knife, the man stands up and stabs himself in the neck. As the man bleeds out, Patterson arrives on the scene. She walks in, sees the man lying dead on the floor, and then her eyes move to the picture. She knows she inadvertently caused this.
Jax meets with Barasky, and tells him that he'd never seen the guy before. Barasky knows he's in the clear, saying that because the headline was leaked by Patterson, she can't hold anything over his own head, and that him and Jax are good to go when it comes to their business.
Jax goes to the hospital to pick up the boys from daycare. Gemma is sitting in the hallway. Jax is the opposite of happy to see his mother there. Jax wants nothing to do with Gemma, despite her actually doing nothing wrong this time. Jax tells her that she will never come near Tara or the boys again, even going as far to proclaim that "grandma is dead."
Patterson makes another visit to Nero. The first thing out of his mouth is that he's going to need his lawyer, but Patterson assures him that that's not necessary. Patterson drops a file on the table. Inside are pictures of the dead boys from the school shooting. She tells Nero to think of them every time he holds his own son. Patterso admits that Toric killed Erin Byrne, then tells the guards that Nero is free to go.
At their house, Jax and Tara have another one of their talks about how they've grown apart. Jax blames himself completely for the separation that's forming between the two of them. Neither of them can think of an answer to help fix what's happened between them. The episode ends as they sit on opposite ends of the room, both at a loss for words.
