Julianne Hough has received a lot of criticism this week for her blackface Halloween costume, but one star is sticking up for her.

According to Rap-Up, Braxton defended Hough’s costume choice on VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live.

The 25-year-older addressed Hough’s Crazy Eyes costume from Orange Is The New Black saying, “She doesn’t look African-American to me.” She continues, “She looks like me with a tan!”

The singer then explained her argument by saying, “I am African-American, but I’m just saying--like on top of each other--you know what I’m saying, like the spray tans? That’s what she looks like!”

Braxton continued sharing her side of the argument by explaining that poeple should be able to dress up as whatever they want to on Halloween. “Would you be offended if I wore a conehead and painted myself white? I mean, it’s not like you are tyring to be racist or offensive or anything like that,” Braxton said.

E! Online reports that Julianne has apologized for her costume choice by speaking out on Twitter. Hough wrote, “I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New Black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way.”

She continues, “I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.”
