Taylor Swift opened the Taylor Swift Education Center at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Saturday.
According to the Associated Press, the “ singer donated $4 million to add the education center, which features classrooms, a hands-on instrument room and music education classes and opportunities.
“I’m really excited about this music education center and the fact that right now they have three different classes going on today,” Swift said after she cut the ribbon to open the center. “It’s really exciting that we can be here on a day when they’re not only unveiling it, but they’re starting to actively use it today.”
A children's exhibit gallery will also be added, which will open in March 2014, reports TaylorSwift.com. The classrooms and the learning lab are open and being used now.
Along with donating millions of dollars for the facility, Swift plans to be involved in some of the programs at the center as well. “We’ve been talking about different programs I can be involved in. I hate to call it a lecture because that sounds like I’m yelling at people, but we could do a Q&A talking to students here and a songwriters discussion would be really fun to have at some point.”
The 23-year-old accepts her sixth songwriter-artist of the year award from the Nashville Songwriters Association International Sunday.
