The knockout rounds continued last night on The Voice. Vocalists returned to go head to head in a vocal battle in order to advance to the live shows. This was the final night of knockouts.
First up to the knockout stage was Team Adam. Levine paired Lina Gaudenzi up against Preston Pohl who sang, “No Woman No Cry.” Gaudenzi chose to put her own spin on, “I’d Rather Go Blind.” In the end, Pohl was sent onto the live shows and Gaudenzi was sent home.
Following Team Adam was Team Blake. Shelton paired up E.G. Daily against Ray Boudreaux. Daily sang, “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Boudreaux went in a different direction and performed, “Hard to Handle.” Green added that Boudreaux really brought the soul out of his performance and that he is surprised by Daily. Shelton was left with the decision and advanced Boudreaux to the live shows.
Next up to the knockout stage was some of the younger pop singers on Team Christina. Anthony Paul selected Jason DeRulo’s hit single, “The Other Side,” for his performance. Lee performed, “Stompa” by Serena Ryder. Aguilera advanced Lee to the knockout rounds because she that has a performer she could help Lee move forward, sending Paul home.
Following Team Christina was Team Cee Lo. Green paired Stephanie Johnson against Tamara Chauniece. Johnson put an acoustic spin on a Norah Jones’ classic “Don’t Know Why” for her knockout performance. Chauniece added a soulful element to Alica Key’s “No One.” Shelton added that he really enjoyed the soul in the performance by Chauniece and Aguilera added that both performances had an element of originality. The decision was up to Green who decided to advance Chauniece to the knockout rounds. Before Johnson could finish her exit speech, Aguilera pushed her button and stole Johnson back to her team.
James Wolpert entered the knockout rounds, going head to head with fellow Team Adam member Juhi. Wolpert took on a classic rock anthem, “More Than A Feeling,” for his performance. Juhi also took on a classic performing, “Heard it Through the Grapevine.” Aguilera added that both artists had great moments and added that she saw the most Wolpert having the most potential. Green disagreed saying that Juhi won the battle in his eyes. Levine decided in the end to advance Wolpert to the live shows, sending Juhi home.
Shelton decided to put two male country artists head to head. Austin Jenckes was paired up against Brandon Chase. Jenckes decided to perform an emotional rendition of “I’ll Be.” Chase picked to sing, “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” by the Eli Young Band. The winner of the knockout was Jenckes who then advanced to the live shows. This knockout performance completed Team Blake.
Team Cee Lo entered into knockout round next. Caroline Pennell was paired up against George Horga Jr., both artists are known for their unique take on certain genres. Pennell chose to perform, “The Way I Am,” by Ingrid Michaelson. Horga picked a very different song performing, “Because of You,” by Ne-Yo. Both performances left Green with a tough decision, in the end, Pennell advanced to the live shows.
The final knockout of the night went to Team Christina. Aguilera paired Matthew Schuler against Will Champlin. Schuler chose to sing a Florence + The Machine hit, “Cosmic Love.” Champlin took on a Bruno Mars hit, “If I Was Your Man.” Green gave both artists a standing ovation. In the end, Aguilera advanced Schuler to the live shows, leaving Champlin available to steal. Levine immediately stole Champlin from Team Christina.
