8. American Hustle
This is another film brought to us by Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell, and is based on the true story of the FBI Abscam operation in the late 1970s and early 1980s. What makes the film even more anticipated and gives it more potential is the cast lineup. The film will co-star Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, and Jennifer Lawrence.

7. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Mitty is the third film directed by Ben Stiller, who also stars in the film. Hopefully, this film will be as exciting as the trailer, which shows main character Mitty escaping the humdrum of daily life by delving into fantastical daydreams.

6. Her
There was no buzz surrounding this film at all until the trailer hit the cinemas and the web. Her is directed by Spike Jonze and will star Joaquin Phoenix along with a cast of some seriously talented ladies including Olviia Wilde, Rooney Mara, Amy Adams, and Scarlett Johansson as Samantha, a Siri-like operating system that Phoenix’ character falls in love with. The film looks original and very interesting, and it is a must-see this fall.
Release date: December 18 (limited)
5. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
The sequel to the hit film Anchorman comes nearly a decade after the original film, and fans are extremely excited. As a cinema employee, I can easily attest to the fact that audiences are excited by the trailer and are already pumped for its release. The original cast - and Ron Burgundy’s mustache - is back for another round of hilarity this fall.

4. 12 Years A Slave
Now this is a film that you should get excited about. After premiering at film festivals around the world, 12 Years A Slave has some serious Oscar buzz. Critics are already saying that star Chiwetel Ejiofor may take home the Oscar for Best Actor. The rest of the cast is full of spectacular actors as well, including Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamatti, Alfre Woodard, and the young Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhané Wallis. Aside from the buzz, the film looks like it will be a powerful and intense adaptation of the true story of Solomon Northrup, a free man who was sold into slavery in 1841.

3. The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug
If you haven’t heard of this film until now, you may have been living in a Hobbit hole. The second installment in the Hobbit trilogy is one of this holiday season’s most anticipated films. 1. Thor: the Dark World
This sequel to the 2011 film Thor is one that everyone is gearing up for next month, especially in the wake of last year’s The Avengers and this summer’s Iron Man 3. The film will follow the Avenger Thor (Chris Hemsworth), after the timeline of The Avengers, as the Dark Elves threaten to destroy Asgard and the other realms. Thor will team up with adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) to save everyone in what will, undoubtedly, be one of the biggest films of the fall film season.
