Fifty Shades of Grey is a dark romance. The character of Christian Grey should not only be sexy but have danger in his eyes. The actor must be able to handle (possible) full frontal nudity and not mind doing weird sexual stuff. Because Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the film, there has been much debate on who can fill the shoes of the lead. The trilogy has become a phenomenon with fans demanding which actor they want to play the dark Mr. Grey.
I have not read the novels but I can only assume that Christian Grey must be like a good cup of coffee - strong, rich and disrespectful to women. And because Dakota Johnson has already been cast as innocent Anastasia Steele, the actor must have chemistry with her. Knowing those two things, casting the wealthy Mr. Grey must be a very stressful task.
