HBO has cast Topher Grace, Sarah Silverman and Patti LuPone for its People in New Jersey comedy pilot.
According to Deadline, the pilot will be executive produced by Lorne Michaels. Paul Feig will direct the pilot and Bruce Eric Kaplan will write.
The pilot is said to be about life as understood by two siblings who live in New Jersey. Grace plays Carl Levin, who is a locksmith that feels things should be a certain way and if they aren't he does his best to resist. His sister, Melanie Levin (played by Silverman), was a management consultant but now works in a department store part-time, trying to believe that it will only be temporary.
LuPone plays their mother, Rachel Levin, who is a widower and worries about neither of her children being married. She accidentally caused both brother and sister to tend to just say what they are thinking.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that this show would be the first time Grace has been back on TV since That '70s Show. Silverman, similarly, hasn't been on TV since her show The Sarah Silverman Program. And it could reunite the actress with Michaels, as she used to write for Saturday Night Live.
LuPone has mostly done guest credits for TV, including the upcoming American Horror Story, 30 Rock and Army Wives. She garnered an Emmy nomination for her guest spot on Frasier.
