Grape Vine Farms and The Apple Barrel seems to be distant cousins. They are both a very nice place to have a meal, but easy to miss when you drive by or even when you get into the building. They are both located at the back of a store that looks like something found out of the tales of Arabian Nights.
Grape Vine Farms (2373 NY 7, Cobleskill, NY) and The Apple Barrel (115 New York 30A, Schoharie, NY) brand themselves as country store. They are both jam packed with all kinds of products. From candles to maple syrup, from jam to sauces, you can spend a lot of times there.
And what about the food?
I took a gander at the Grape Vine Farms menu and decided to go for the Black Angus Steak Burger with blue cheese on a pretzel roll. Quick and nice service, great food, don’t hesitate to stop by.
As the name implies, The Apple Barrel menu includes a lot of apple-related meal. Recommended by my friendly waiter as a staple meal, I ordered the Orchard Abundance. Simply put, it’s a chicken salad sandwich. Except that it’s not. It would be offensive to call such a delight a simple “chicken salad sandwich”. The menu describes the Orchard Abundance as a “Swiss cheese melted on top of crisp apple slices, layered over juicy chicken salad made with red onion and celery, topped with cranberries and pecan. Served open face on grilled ciabatta.” Sounds good, right? I never imagined that a meal made out of chicken salad could be so could. And I don’t even like chicken. On top of that, it comes with their famous homemade potato chip. What a feast!
