As is traditional for the People's Choice Awards, fans were given the opportunity to choose five brand new awards categories to be introduced in 2014. The new categories are "Favorite Movie Duo," "Favorite Alternative Artist," "Favorite Country Music Icon," "Favorite Sci/Fi Fantasy Star," and "Favorite Streaming Series." There are 54 categories on the voting ballot divided into "Movies," "Music," and "Television," some of which are pretty creative (you won't see an Emmy for "Favorite TV Bromance" or an Oscar for "Favorite Horror Movie." Last year, The Hunger Games was the biggest winner, taking five categories including "Favorite Movie."
The top five in each category will become the official nominees and will be announced during the annual People’s Choice Awards press conference on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 (9:00 AM, PT), at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills.
The 40th Annual People's Choice Awards will be broadcast LIVE from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/delayed PT), on the CBS Television Network.
