Has The Good Wife finally lost steam? Despite all their attempts to keep my attention, I couldn’t help but feel completely disengaged.
This week’s The Good Wife had all the elements of what should have been a great episode: new characters, conflict between the law firms, and tension among the existing partners. But the introduction of new lawyer Damian Boyle felt over-the-top with dramatics (stealing Florrick/Agos’ furniture? Seriously?); the conflict between Will and Alicia seemed stale; and the case at hand appeared banal.
This week, over at Florrick/Agos and Associates, the gang is struggling with their financials — but where is Nathan Lane in all of this? Luckily, Alicia receives a client just in time: a professor and former client (side note: why do clients never want to work with Cary? He seems just as competent as Alicia).
Alicia and Robyn rush over to the professor’s house to find that he is being investigated for a Jihad bombing in Milwaukee. The police have few leads, except for the postings on a website Scabbit’s chatroom. Cary and Alicia spring into action to try and stop the website from defaming their client.
While Cary and Alicia stretch to make ends meet, Lockhart/Gardner are swimming in cash — so much so that they are ready to hire a few new partners. Diane and Will set about trying to find the perfect contender for their new image as “LG.” Or is it merely “G” now? That’s what Will seems to think as he takes over the hiring process and takes on new partner Damien Boyle, lawyer to the mob (yes, that mob).
And when Cary and Alicia are out fighting crimes, Damien takes it upon himself to go over and steal their furniture. Very Classy. But while he’s destroying their office space, he happens upon Alicia’s professor client. So, Damien and Will decide to represent the opposing counsel (website “Scabbit”).
But Will is too busy trying to give dirty looks to Alicia to win the case. And when Diane and Will mosey over to the Florrick/Agos offices, the new law firm can’t help but gloat a bit.
I appreciate their attempts to bring new blood into the LG office, but Damien’s antics just felt a bit too far-fetched. Hopefully they can find a way to rein him in (either that, or Kalinda will take him down). Plus, the case this week, which brought Alicia and Cary into the courtroom for exactly the same reason every time, seemed redundant and rather uncreative.
What did you think of The Good Wife this week?
