ABC has put in a pilot order for an American adaptation of the British comedy Bad Education.

The single-camera show has been renamed An American Education, Deadline reports. Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory wrote the script based off their idea with original series' creator Jack Whitehall.

Tiger Aspect's Ben Cavey, who produced the original series, will serve as executive producer. The other three will also executive produce the pilot.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Whitehall will reprise his role as Alfie Wickers. This time he is teaching in the San Diego public school system and is a bit of an unorthodox teacher. He does his best to teach the students while dealing with test-obsessed administrators and crushing on the chemistry teacher.

The original series set ratings records for BBC Three when it first launched in 2012, though eventually lost that to Andy Samberg's Cuckoo. A second series finished in October.

An American Education is the third pilot that ABC has ordered, joining Galavant and Irreversible.
