A&E announced this afternoon that the crime drama Longmire will get another season. The news comes months after co-creator John Coveny announced to fans on Twitter that the show would get a third season.

Longmire’s second season averaged 3.7 million viewers and ended on Aug. 26, reports Deadline. The season finale had 4.4 million viewers, the most that season.

Although Coveny said a few days after the premiere that A&E made a snap judgement to pick it up, it wasn’t until today that the network finally made a deal with producer Warner Horizon. The new season will have 10 episodes.

Longmire has become one of the most compelling dramas on television with a devoted audience and we are so proud of the show,” A&E GM David McKillop said in a statement.

Longmire stars Robert Taylor in the title role, plus Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bailey Chase, Cassidy Freeman and Adam Bartley.

While A&E is best known for its reality shows, the network is working on building a stable of original programming. It is the home of Bates Motel and the upcoming Those Who Kill. Unfortunately, the network’s first original show, The Glades, was cancelled in August.
