Alex Newell of FOX's Glee, comments of Bill O'Reilly's statemennts about his character's influence on kids experimenting with gender.

According to The Wrap, Newell responded to comments that O'Reilly stated on his show in April 2012 about how his Glee character will influence viewers to gender experimentation.

"If you make it glamorous in a program like Glee, which is undeniably a good program, a lot of these dopey kids are confused about who they are," O'Reilly said. "They're confused."

Mediaite reports that Newell spoke to Fusion's Alicia Menendez on Thursday, responding to O'Reilly's comments.

"It's wrong to call people dopey. When it's something this poignant and such a big part of the society, you can’t call kids dopey because this is something that they're actually going through, this is what they feel on the inside, there's nothing dopey about it," Newell said.

Newel joined Glee after appearing on Oxygen's The Glee Project, a reality series that gave people a chance to audition for the show.

Newell spoke about how feminine fashion and make-up is fun and not transgender, and that he is also playing a character.

"Some people don't understand that I do play a character," Newell said. "I must be doing it well if they really think that I'm living my character's life."
