This week’s episode of Arrow, “League of Assassins,” begins with Mrs. Queen facing either the death penalty or life with parole in her trial, on which Laurel Lance is serving as prosecution. Laurel’s intent isn’t ill natured; it was her idea to give Mrs. Queen an option other than the death penalty, and Mrs. Queen is willing to take it.
At Oliver’s home, an assassin decides to drop by and spend some time with Sarah and Oliver. They put up a helluva fight, but the assassin gets away. Oliver gathers the evidence from him and sends it to Felicity, who provides Oliver and Sarah with his location soon after. The Hood and Sarah decide to pay the assassin a visit in return. They don’t get much information, but they do find out that Malcolm Merlyn was a member of the League of Assassins under Ra’s al Ghul.
Along with Merlyn, Sarah was a member of the League of Assassins. She tried to leave because she saw herself becoming a cold, calculating murderer. Sarah returned to Sterling to watch over her family, but the League of Assassins wants her back. The League of Assassins knows why she returned to the city, so they begin targeting her family.
Oliver and Felicity try to protect Detective Lance and Laurel, but only Laurel is willing to go to dinner with Oliver. Detective Lance refuses to listen to Felicity’s pleas. Instead, Sarah reveals herself to her father to protect him. After taking Laurel to dinner, Oliver walks her up to her apartment only to find it broken into. He scopes the place out before letting Laurel inside.
Sarah and her father go to dinner together to catch up, and Sarah reveals to him her past, that she’d been taken in by the League of Assassins and taken under the wing of Professor Ivo. She took the name “Canary” while in the League. Back at her lookout spot, Sarah tells her father not to tell either Laurel or her mother she’s alive. He accepts, unwillingly.
Oliver and Thea go to their mother in jail and tell her whatever her reason for taking the plea is, they’ll listen to her secret, and they won’t abandon her.
After Sarah leaves the city, Oliver tells Diggle about the last time he saw her. It wasn’t while he was on the island, but instead when he was kidnapped by the League of Assassins. Sarah was Oliver’s torturer.
