Comedy legend Bill Murray has been getting busy again after taking a few years off. He has several projects in the works now and you can add HBO’s Olive Kitteridge to the list.
The miniseries will be a rate television role for Murray and is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Elizabeth Strout, reports Deadline. Jane Anderson has written the script and The Kids Are All Right director Lisa Cholodenko is helming the project.
Olive Kitteridge is set in a New England town that may seem like a peaceful place on the outside, but is really a place filled with intrigue and affairs. The title character will be played by Fargo actress Frances McDormand, while Murray will star as a widower she befriends.
According to The Huffington Post, the rest of the case includes Zoe Kazan, Rosemarie DeWitt, Cory Michael Smith, John Gallagher Jr. and Jesse Plemons. They joined the cast back in August.
Playtone and As Is are co-producing the series. Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, Anderson and McDormand are producing. The executive producers are Steven Shareshian and David Coatsworth.
Murray recently filmed Ted Melfi’s St. Vincent De Van Nuys and stars in George Clooney’s The Monuments Men and Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. He will also appear in Cameron Crowe’s Bradley Cooper/Emma Stone film.
