The late Brittany Murphy’s mother, Sharon Murphy, is breaking her silence about recent reports that her daughter could’ve been poisoned to death.

In a moving open letter for The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy refutes claims that her daughter died of rat poisoning, although her estranged biological father, Angelo Bertolotti , insists that’s the way she died.

Murphy wrote she’s remained out of the public eye in “mourning,” but has "no choice now but to come forward in the face of inexcusable efforts to smear my daughter's memory by a man who may be her biological father but was never a real father to her in her lifetime.”

She goes on to explain she raised Brittany alone while Bertolotti was in jail for 12 years and was never in her life after the age of 1, besides the occasional appearance after she found success.

"We will never know for sure," she said of her daughter’s death, adding, "we do know the Los Angeles County Coroner did extensive tests and found that she died of natural causes. And now she is a real living angel in heaven."

Murphy concluded she wants her daughter to be remembered as “the darling person she was, for the giant talent she showed the world (and left behind in her movie and TV appearances) and for the friendships and loving relationships that really were part of her life.”
