Four days after having heart surgery, Denver Broncos coach John Fox was released from the Charlotte hospital on Friday.
Fox had his aortic valve replaced on Monday two days after he felt dizzy while playing golf, according to the Associated Press. He wanted to put the surgery off until the offseason, but doctors said that it couldn’t be put off after he become sick over the weekend. Fox will rest at his offseason home in Charlotte and start cardio rehab soon. After he was released for the hospital, Fox provided an update on his condition.
"My recovery is progressing well -- I am feeling better and getting stronger each day. I will begin the next phase of my recovery in Charlotte and continue outpatient appointments with doctors, who will clear me to return to Denver when the time is right. Although I'm eager to return to coaching, my No. 1 focus is my health. I believe in our players and have full confidence in Jack Del Rio and our staff” Fox said in a statement, according to ESPN. Bronco’s interim coach Jack Del Rio told players the news after practice.
Fox will still have input on what the Broncos are doing while he recovers. Del Rio will still be doing his defensive coordinator duties while Fox is recovering. Del Rio expects to talk to Fox almost every day while he is out. Fox is expected to miss at least ten weeks during the recovery.
