CBS has greenlit a spin-off for their popular series How I Met Your Mother following rumors that surfaced late last month.
It was reported last month that following the ending of How I Met Your Mother, the spin-off How I Met Your Dad would begin.
Deadline has confirmed it will definitely happen after just two weeks of negotiations. The show was pitched by HIMYM creators and executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas as well as Up All Night’s creator/exec producer Emily Spivey.
Bays tweeted, “Our hope is that #HIMYD becomes its own magical wonderful weird thing, and the two shows stand on their own side by side.” Thomas also tweeted, “Thanks, everyone -- we will make this cool! #HIMYM #HIMYD.”
The show will center on the female’s point of view with an entirely new cast but will be set in the same New York bar MacLaren’s Pub.
How I Met Your Mother, currently in its ninth and final season, is a CBS staple. It’s the network’s most watched Monday show and only falls behind The Big Bang Theory in viewers, averaging 8.2 million total viewers per episode. The show will end this spring.
