Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder injured his left shoulder in Thursday night's game against the Washington Redskins, causing him to leave the game in the third quarter.

According to ESPN, the 25-year-old quarterback attempted to stretch out for a touchdown after a 15-yard run, but was stopped just short of the goal line by Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall. Ponder stood up holding his left wrist after his dive and walked off the field to the locker room.

CBS Sports reports that Ponder threw some passes on the sideline after his injury, but remained out of the game due to a shoulder injury.

Ponder had a great game before his injury took him out – he went 17 of 21 for 174 yards before being taken out of the game, with two touchdowns and an interception.

Ponder was replaced by 31-year-old Matt Cassel, who finished the touchdown and led the Vikings to a 34-27 victory. The Vikings improved their record to 2-7, while the Redskins dropped down to a record of 3-6.
