The Walking Dead comic creator Robert Kirkman's next project, Outcast, will be appear on Cinemax.

The Hollywood Reporter first learned of the news that Cinemax won out in a bidding war to develop Kirkman's next comic.

Outcast, which won't be out as a comic until 2014, follows Kyle Barnes who has suffered from possession his whole life. He decides to get to the heart of the matter and finds out the truth might mean the end of life as we know it on Earth.

Cinemax has given the show a script commitment with a large penalty. Kirkman is set to write the script and executive produce. Circle of Confusion's David Alpert will also be on hand to executive produce. Fox International Channels, which distributes The Walking Dead is also involved.

FIC executive vice president of original development and scripted programming, Sharon Tal Yguado, said, "At FIC, we're committed to creating compelling, innovative television with A-list writers like Robert Kirkman, and with Cinemax we have a partner that is as passionate as we are about this very unique project."

Yguado continued, "Outcast is unlike anything on television and has the potential to become another global phenomenon."

Kirkman commented on the news, Deadline reports. "Despite the success of The Walking Dead, Outcast is only my second foray into the horror genre."

The comic book writer added, "I think Kyle Barnes is every bit as compelling as Rick Grimes and demonic possession is way scarier than zombies-so this is going to be fun."
