Conrad Murray, the former doctor of the late Michael Jackson who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in his 2009 death, is speaking out for the first time since being released from prison.
Murray said in his first interview since becoming a free man again that he and the “King of Pop” were extremely close.
“We were family. We loved each other as brothers,” he told Daily Mail. “I never gave Michael anything that would kill him,’ he says tersely. ‘I loved him. I still do. I always will.”
Murray was just released three weeks ago after serving two years of a 4-year prison sentence for the death of Jackson.
He said Jackson obtained propofol from doctors in Germany, and he only administered it to him to wean him off of it. He also claims Jackson obtained other drugs and administered them to himself when he left the room.
“Police found an open bottle of lorazepam [an anti-anxiety drug]. They found tablets in his stomach. I didn’t give him those. Michael took extra tablets. And he injected himself,” said Murray. “I believe he woke up, got hold of his own stash of propofol and injected himself. He did it too quickly and went into cardiac arrest.”
Murray still denies any responsibility in Jackson’s death, saying “I did not kill Michael Jackson. He was a drug addict. Michael Jackson accidentally killed Michael Jackson.”
