Dame Helen Mirren has thanked the Queen after taking home another award for portraying her in The Audience.

Upon accepting the award for Best Actress at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards, Mirren said she felt as if the award should go to the Queen instead.

"I've always felt playing Her Majesty that it's actually Her Majesty that's winning the award and not me," she said. "Doing a play was a response to that person, that woman, that extraordinary woman as it was to my performance,” Yahoo UK reports.

Mirren, who also won an Oscar for her role in the film The Queen, said “The audience, they loved it, but they were loving the Queen, not me.”

Director Stephen Daldry has confirmed that with the success of the West End play, they’re in talks to bring it to New York’s Broadway, The Standard reports.

Adrian Lester and Rory Kinnear both received the awards for Best Actor.
