Chicago Bulls point guard had surgery on his knee after suffering a medial meniscus tear, in the other knee this time. The former rookie of the year and MVP will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

According to ESPN, the point guard went under the knife of Brian Cole, who has worked on Rose before, on Monday.

Chicago head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters that Rose's return cannot be predicted until the procedure is finished.

The injury occurred during play, Friday, during the Bulls' matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers, Chicago Tribune reports. It happened when Nicolas Batum stole a Joakim Noah pass and started the other way, forcing Rose to change direction to get back on defense. He slipped and ended up limping off the court in pain.

“We’re hoping for the best,” Thibodeau said. “We of course feel very badly for Derrick. I talked to him at length (Saturday) night. He’s in good spirits, about as well as can be expected under the circumstances. And he’s already thinking about his rehab. Typical Derrick, he’s concerned about his team, his teammates."

The Bulls had their goals set very high for this season with the return of their three-time All-Star at the start of the season. They were considered one of the few teams who could put up a fight against LeBron James' Miami Heat, and surely had their sights set on a Finals run.
