Plot details for the Doctor's latest adventure in the upcoming Christmas special of Doctor Who have been released.

The special has been titled "The Time Of The Doctor," NME reports. The Christmas special marks Matt Smith's last episode as the Doctor.

The official plot from the BBC is: "Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them - the Doctor."

The plot details continue that the Doctor picks up Clara from Christmas dinner and they head off to decipher the signal and how it involves his fate and the rest of the universe's.

The news follows on the heels of the successful 50th anniversary special that aired over the weekend. "The Day of the Doctor" was watched by over 10 million viewers in the U.K. and a record 2.4 million on BBC America.

The 50th anniversary special was simulcast in 94 countries, which set a new Guinness World Record for largest-ever simulcast of a TV drama. In addition to airing on TV, "The Day of the Doctor" was also aired in several theaters in the U.K., where it earned $2.91 million. In the U.S., theaters made $204,000 and German theaters saw earnings of $317,000.
