The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Monday that Don Mattingly will return as manager for next season.
Mattingly will return for his fourth season with the Dodgers, with just one change to the coaching staff reports ESPN Los Angeles.
Tim Wallach is moving from third base coach to the new bench coach. He replaces Trey Hillman, who was fired last month. Lorenzo Bundy, who managed the Dodger’s Triple-A team in Albuquerque is the only addition to the Dodgers staff. The rest of Mattingly’s coaching staff will return.
There was no announcement made about a possible contract extension for Mattingly. Mattingly is 260-225 as the Dodgers manager, according to the The Associated Press. This season he led the Dodgers to the National League Championship series. It was the Dodgers first postseason appearance since 2009. The Dodgers lost that series to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Mattingly, a former New York Yankee player, came to the Dodgers as an assistant coach under Joe Torre in 2008, according to Bleacher Report. When Torre retired at the end of the 2010 season, Mattingly took over the helm.
The Dodgers obviously believe in Mattingly. Now they hope that Mattingly can lead them to a World Series championship.
