Eminem’s childhood home in Detroit, Michigan caught on fire on Thursday. The home was featured on the cover of his new album The Marshall Mathers LP 2.
The home is two stories and only 767 square feet so once the fire caught on, it did some damage to the area it started in. However, firemen were able to get control over it and the flames didn’t spread to the rest of the home.
According to TMZ, it isn’t known how the fire began, but it started around 6:20 on Thursday night. The home, located at 19946 Dresden Street near East State Fair, is owned by a bank right now and has seen about ten different owners since Eminem’s mom bought it for $19,900 in 1987. It was up for auction by Wayne County Treasurer's Office for $500 after it was abandoned but it didn’t sell.
A firefighter on the scene told USA Today that the second floor was damaged after they saw flames coming out of a window on the top floor.
On Thursday, Michigan Land Bank’s website listed the “Rap God” rapper’s former home as available for sale.
