Emma Thompson, star of films such as Love Actually and the Harry Potter films, divorced Kenneth Brannagh in 1995 but until now no one in the public really knew the real reason behind their divorce. Well, it turns out the reason may have been Helena Bonham-Carter.
Emma Thompson and Kenneth Brannagh married in 1989 and it seemed to everyone that the two were very much in love. They did a lot of movies together too. According to The Daily Mail, in 1994, Brannagh started to work on his film Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, which also starred Helena Bonham-Carter. Apparently, during the filming of that movie, Brannagh and Bonham-Carter started having an affair. When Thompson found out about the betrayal, she divorced Brannagh.
Now, Thompson says that she forgave Helena Bonham-Carter a long time ago. Thompson, actually, has used the heartache that she experienced during the breakup as the inspiration for at least one of her film roles - Love Actually.
Helena Bonham-Carter is now is a long-term relationship with director Tim Burton.
