George W. Bush appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday night and he talked about his legacy as the 43rd president of the United States. He also discussed our current president, Barack Obama.

In a rare appearance, Bush said he doesn’t miss the “spotlight.” He left his position as commander-in-chief in 2009.

"Eight years is plenty,” he mused, CNN notes. As for his legacy, he didn’t appear overly concerned.

"If they're still writing biographies of the first guy, the 43rd guy doesn't need to worry,” he said. As for advice for President Obama, he said "Well, you have to be believe in what you're doing. I’m also very comfortable with the fact that it’s going to take a while for history to judge whether the decisions I made are consequential or not. And therefore I’m not too worried about it."

President Obama’s approval rating has declined and there’s been constant chatter about Obamacare, but Bush has stayed out of the conversation. He explained, “I don’t think its good for the country to have a former president criticize his successor.”

Mediaite reports, Bush, who at one point appeared on the show with his wife, former First Lady Laura Bush, even campaigned for his younger brother Jeb Bush. The former president said the one-time governor of Florida would make a great president.
