Twenty-Five hours before the big day, Marshall and Marvin were taking the bus to meet up with the rest of the group. Marshall runs into trouble when he realizes he forgot fussy-Marvin’s poetry bedtime book in the car. Marshall takes on the challenge of coming up with “tales to silence Marvin’s chatter.” Even though some of them had “sketchy subject matter.” Last night’s episode was told entirely in rhyme. I love holiday specials!

It amazes me the way they were able to come up with such elaborate stories and carry the rhyme scheme throughout the entire episode. This was obviously, super clever. Even the beginning title song was in a holiday hand bell tone; it was very cute. I could recap the details of each story, but my rhyming attempts would be pretty comical.

The three rhyming features were, Mosby At The Bat, Robin Takes The Cake and Barney Stinson: Player King of New York City. This episode sent a great message about how tough parenting can be. Marshall made a mistake of forgetting little Marvin’s book in the car and now he has to make up for it somehow. He also made the mistake of lying to Lily about taking the job and apologizes to Marvin for the troubles that he might see between his mom and dad when they are reunited. He shares a moment with his son where he tells him he hopes he can remember the fireworks they happened to be looking at instead of the rough trip they’ve had on their way to the Inn (their bus got a flat tire and they had a chance to watch some fireworks.) Future Ted cuts in and says those fireworks did turn out to be Marvin’s very first memory.

This may have been a filler episode since there wasn’t anything of real substance plot wise, but either way it was still entertaining and definitely worth watching. I wonder if they would consider turning each story into an actual book. I would buy them!
