Oh my god, we are so totally excited because HBO’s premiere of Ja’mie: Private School Girl exceeded expectations. The Summer Heights High spin off series debuted Sunday night, and follows the life of Ja’mie King one of the main characters of HBO’s previous series that revolved around an Australian public high school.
For those who aren’t familiar with the character and Chris Lilley’s style be warned that the humor is slightly offensive, but the off color tone of the show is basically the essence of the comedy.
Ja’mie King is one of the three characters that was played by Chris Lilley in Summer Heights High, a comedic series that featured a music teacher, a delinquent 8th grader, and our favorite private school girl, Ja’mie. For fans of Summer Heights the new HBO series is a continuation of the ridiculous hilarity provided by Ja’mie and her snobby antics.
In the premiere episode, the audience gets to see Ja’mie in her natural element at the Hillford Girls Grammar school. Naturally, Ja’mie is the captain of the school and she introduces her friends who are the hottest girls in the school. Ja’mie lovingly refers to them as “Quiche” a term she coined herself meaning a step above. One of Ja’mie’s friends described “quiche” as “hot to point where you want to have sex with them.” Ja’mie and her BFFs gave the rundown on the requirements for “quicheness” which included a three finger gap between the thighs.
The pilot is an introduction to Ja’mie’s life at Hilford, where her and her friends are the prefects which basically means they are privileged bullies. The prefects start everyday by monitoring the girls entering school, handing out detentions on a whim. Ja’mie gives a preview of her role as captain and the audience is blessed with one of her signature choreographed dances. After the scandalous dance Ja’mie and her girlfriends are reprimanded by the principal for showing too much skin and dancing provocatively. Ja’mie is positive it’s because the principal is obsessed with her.
Throughout the episode, Ja’mie showcases her wide array of talents. We see her helping out the less fortunate African immigrants by reading The Hunger Games to them, and engaging in Skype conversations. The love interest of this season is introduced almost immediately. Mitchell, a new student at the Kelton the boy’s private school across the way. Ja’mie is a known cougar, and Mitchell a year 10 rugby player is right up her alley. Sawwwrrr hot.
With Mitchell on her mind, Ja’mie and her friends decide to plan a party at Ja’mie’s house that weekend. In the scenes at the King household we see just how weird Ja’mie can be with her family, particularly her father. In order to persuade her dad allow her to have the party Ja’mie whines and bites his shoulder. Something she’s been doing “since she was a little kid” according to her father in talking head. Mr. King also admits that Ja’mie can be “very flirtatious” which often involves her getting her way. Well, that’s uncomfortable.
The next episode of Ja’mie: Private School Girl is sure to be exciting. I can’t wait to see how the party pans out. The new series airs on HBO Sundays at 10:30 PM EST.
