It had to go to overtime, but the Nets pulled one out against the Suns behind Joe Johnson's big shots late in the game.
In the fourth quarter with about 30 seconds left, Johnson took Goran Dragic off the dribble to hit a floater, sending the game into overtime. Then, in the final seconds of overtime Johnson did it again, running a fast break all by himself to float another one in at the buzzer to win the game.
"I knew I didn't have to take a rushed shot," Johnson said. "I just took my time coming up the court and got in the paint and made a play. I hesitated to make them (the defenders) think I was going to pull up at the 3-point line."
Johnson didn't have a great game otherwise scoring only 13 shooting 6-of-19 from the field in the Nets 100-98 win in Phoenix.
Brook Lopez had 27 points in the game, and according to ESPN he scored 25 of them in the second half and overtime.
Now the bad news. Deron Williams went down in the first quarter after landing on Miles Plumlee's foot, causing him to leave the game with a sprained left ankle.
"I landed on (Miles) Plumlee's foot," Williams said. "All my weight was on (the ankle). It's frustrating. No words can describe it. Sick of getting injured, sick of being hurt. I just want to be healthy and help my team."
NY Times reports it was Williams' right ankle that kept him out for most of the preseason. Spraining his other ankle was kind of an indication of how this Nets season has started.
