Justin Bieber may have thought that he met Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, but the president’s office says otherwise. Bieber, whose Latin American tour has gone anything but smoothly, said in a tweet that he met Nieto’s family.
“Just met some amazing mexican beliebers and the presidente of mexico and his familia,” Bieber wrote just before his show last night. “Now it is showtime. 60,000 tonight. night 1. te amo.” Bieber’s tweet has since been deleted.
But then, the president’s office said that the meeting didn’t happen. “@ Presidenciamx Holder denies Executive meeting @ EPN with singer @ justinbieber,” the tweet read in Spanish.
La @Presidenciamx desmiente reunión del Titular del Ejecutivo @EPN con el cantante @justinbieber.

According to TMZ, Bieber genuinely thought that that he met the president. A source for the site said that Bieber was told that he met the “President's family.” The family even showed up in a motorcade, which further convinced Bieber that he was meeting the leader of Mexico.
Bieber’s Latin American tour has been eventful, but not in the way he might have expected. He was charged with vandalism for spraying graffiti in Brazil. He angered fans in Argentina for allegedly kicking a flag on stage. He then left the show early, complaining of food poisoning. There was even a video of him sleeping at a house he was renting in Brazil that went viral.
The singer, who is promoting his album Believe, finishes his Latin American tour tonight with a show in Mexico City. He’s then off to New Zealand and Australia.
