Rapper Kanye West put in a not guilty plea in his battery case stemming from a July incident with photography Daniel Ramos at LAX on Thursday.
West was not in court, so his attorney, Blair Berk, entered the plea for him, reports TMZ. He is being charged with criminal battery and attempted grand theft, both misdemeanor charges. If he’s convicted, he could be sentenced to up to a year in prison.
Ramos is being represented by attorney Gloria Allred who did speak with reporters after the hearing. She stood beside him as he recalled the incident, which was caught on tape and posted on TMZ.
“When Kanye West attacked me, I was in complete shock,” Ramos said, reports The Los Angeles Times. “All I had done was ask him a question...I was terrified when Kanye started to come at me. I backed up because I felt from the look in his eyes, he was going to attack me.”
Allred said that West had at first tried to ignore Ramos, but then he turned toward him. “Then without provocation, Mr. West suddenly attacked Danny, punching him and attempting to wrestle Danny's camera from his hands,” she told reporters.
Ramos also sued West in August and West later responded, claiming self defense.
West is currently engaged to reality star Kim Kardashian and the two are parents of North West.
