Katie Couric will be adding her name to the growing list of powerful women at Yahoo.
The Internet giant hired Couric, the former anchor of CBS Evening News. Her new role with Yahoo will be announced on Monday, Forbes reported. Early reports have indicated that Couric would most likely be joining the Internet powerhouse as a “global news anchor.”
Couric will be the latest and most prominent journalists to join Yahoo in recent months.
The hire comes as a surprise to some Yahoo observers. Upon Yahoo naming a new CEO, Marissa Mayer, she gave off clear signals that her priority was product. The former Yahoo CEO had a plan of turning Yahoo into a media powerhouse.
Time reported that Mayer reportedly recruited Couric personally to the webs brand.
Couric has been hosting her own talk show on ABC, Katie, since 2011. Kate did not live up to rating expectations and her role on-air at ABC News has been limited. Negotiations are under way still regarding Couric’s talk show.
