Katy Perry is dominating the charts with her new album Prism, and she’s made strides in her career since its conception.

The pop star, 29, is opening up about being “humiliated” in the beginning of her career, saying it was a test of her character.

Perry told German magazine Joy that before she found success in 2008 with her debut album One of the Boys, she experienced a few setbacks.

"You have to eat dust in the music industry. You'll get humiliated, often in very uncomfortable ways. That period of my life was like a test of my strength,” she said, Yahoo reports. "My philosophy is: you get presented with these challenges so you can learn to overcome them.”

Once she landed the career of her dreams, Perry admitted she would sacrifice it for her then-husband Russell Brand before they called it quits on their 14-month marriage.

"When I was married I kept taking breaks in between touring so I could dedicate time to my marriage. It was extremely draining, but my marriage was worth it to me,” she said.

A source told E! News, however, that an engagement in Perry and Mayer’s future is “inevitable.”

"Everyone wants them to get engaged," said a source. "They are so perfect together."
