Katy Perry has surpassed Justin Bieber in having the most Twitter followers. Over the weekend, Perry’s followers surpassed the “As Long As You Love Me” singer’s count.
Perry now has Bieber beat with 46,542,291 followers to his 46,515,338 as of Monday.
Nine months ago, Bieber took the reign away from ARTPOP’s Lady Gaga. Gaga had been the most followed person on Twitter for two years straight before that. She’s now at 40,403,471 and rising.
Daily Mail notes Gaga’s in the third spot, with President Barack Obama and Taylor Swift following behind.
Perry, whose album Prism reached No. 1 on the charts, spoke about her social media skills to USA Today last month.
"I've learned how to ride social media. I have horrible typos. I use 'there' or 'your' wrong grammatically. But I feel like I've learned how to tame that social media dragon,” she said.
She added that she uses the "less is more” approach, unlike frequent tweeters Bieber and Gaga.
