The YouTube Video Awards took place last night, November 3rd, in New York City. The first ever award show was directed by Spike Jonez and featured performances by Lady Gaga, Eminem, and a live music video of Arcade Fire’s “Afterlife” reports E! Online Among the performances, and winners, was a live short written by award winning writer and director Lena Dunham.

The short, entitled “Choose You” completely embodied Dunham’s signature style. The live performance featuring actors Vanessa Hudgens and Michael Shannon, had a choose your own adventure theme, allowing audiences to choose the turnout of the film. “Choose You” was about a heartbroken guy, who’s depression ruined his relationship with his ex-girlfriend (Vanessa Hudgens) who was now dating the DJ (Shannon). Mr. Depressed is approached by a free-spirited young woman who is determined to resolve the young man's heartache. Dunham wrote the film with two alternative endings, the first option dubbed the “soup” ending gave the new-found couple a happy-ever-after where they went out for soup and met each other’s parents. The second ending, featured a double suicide in which the actors propelled themselves from the ceiling to their bloody doom. Much to Dunham’s delight the audience pulled through with the tragic ending reports The Huffington Post

The short was set to Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” and was highlighted by Dunham’s dark yet comedic writing style. Watch the Girls writer's creation below.
