There will not be a third season for Jennifer Love Hewitt's The Client List, after Lifetime announced that the drama has been cancelled.
Variety reports that the final episode of the second season aired in June and the viewer numbers were not great for the show.
The first season averaged about 2.5 million viewers, but the second season dipped quite steeply down to 2 million viewers. The Client List was about Hewitt's character who was a prostitute.
According to Deadline, the show's cancellation may have been a mutual decision between Lifetime and Sony Pictures TV, who produces the show, after having talent issues.
The show was struggling on where it wanted to go creatively for season three storylines and evidently Hewitt wanted her real-life fiance to be the father of her character's baby in the show, which is something the creators weren't too fond.
At the time, a rep for Hewitt commented, "There are many story lines we are exploring. So any suggestion that we are not doing our best to develop a great season is simply not accurate."
What made Lifetime's decision likely easier was the network's two new programs, Devious Maids and The Witches of East End, starting off successfully, with the former already picked up for a second season.
