Monty Python may have broken up 30 years ago, but their fans certainly haven’t forgotten about them. Tickets for their July reunion show in London sold out in under a minute, so four more dates were added.
During a press conference on Thursday, surviving members Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam and John Cleese announced that they would do a one-off show at the O2 Arena in London in July. Tickets went on sale Monday morning and sold out in the blink of an eye.
According to CNN, their PR agency, Neil Reading PR, said that it took just 43.5 seconds for tickets to sell out. So, they added four shows and tickets are on sale now at MontyPythonLive.com. Prices run from £32 ($51) to £106 ($171).
The group, with the late Graham Chapman, got their start on the BBC with Monty Python’s Flying Circus, which only lasted four seasons. Still, they were comedy icons by the time the show ended and went on to produce three films, 1975’s Monty Python and the Holy Grail, 1979’s Monty Python’s Life of Brian and 1983’s Monty Python and the Meaning of Life. They also released books and albums and performed stage shows. Their last stage show was at the Hollywood Bowl in 1980.
Cleese said at the press conference that the show will mix new bits with familiar classics with “comedy, pathos, music and a tiny bit of ancient sex.”
