Drew Goddard, a writer who previously worked on Lost and Alias, is reportedly in talks to write the Daredevil series that Marvel and Disney will produce for Netflix.
TheWrap first reported the news, citing a source close to the project. Reps for Goddard, Netflix and Disney did not comment.
Goddard’s credits include Lost, Alias, Angel and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. He has also worked in features, writing Brad Pitt’s World War Z and the Joss Whedon-produced Cabin in the Woods. He also told Collider in 2012 that he is a big fan of Daredevil.
“You’re talking to a guy who had quotes from Daredevil painted on his walls growing up,” he told the site at the time. “When I was 18 I still had the blood-red door with the ‘I have shown him that a man without hope is a man without fear,’ that was what I love. If we can find the right project, I’d love to do it.”
Disney and Marvel won back the film rights to Daredevil in April after Fox had failed to get a movie started in time. The studio had produced the much-maligned 2003 film with Ben Affleck and a follow-up centered on the Elektra character, but attempts to get a reboot made failed. So, the studio just let the rights expire and go back to Marvel. (Fox still has Fantastic Four and X-Men.)
Daredevil will be one of four characters to star in their own Netflix miniseries. Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones will also have shows, which will lead up to The Defenders. The shows will be posted in 2015.
