After their most recent win at home over the Green Bay Packers, the New York Giants seem to have turned their once -shameful 2013 season right around. They have won four straight games after starting the season 0-6.
The Giants had a fourth quarter lead over the Aaron Rodgers-less Packers—a led that if lost would bring an end to the hope in MetLife Stadium. New York defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul made a bold prediction in a defensive huddle. He told his teammates not only that the Packers would throw a short pass to his side, but that he would pick it off. He "called his shot" if you will. He did just as he said he would, and returned it for a touchdown.
If you recall, Babe Ruth did something of the sort. But this was different.
"Babe Ruth, hey, well at least you know (in baseball) the ball is coming," said Giants linebacker Jon Beason. "He (Ruth) is sitting there, 'Hey, you've got to pitch to me.' ... In football, it's a little different."
According to USA Today, Pierre-Paul was wearing a harness on his shoulder due to soreness during the Giants' 27-13 win. That didn't stop him from snatching Packers third string quarterback Scott Tolzien's pass out of the air.
"All I said was, 'I'm going to pick this off and run to the house,'" Pierre-Paul said.
The 6'5 278-pounder had surgery for a herniated disk before the season and has been climbing back to full health ever since, The New York Times reports.
“He’s freakish," said Giants safety Antrel Rolle. That’s one of the best plays I’ve ever seen.”
The Giants are right back in the NFC East race after their abysmal start.
