New York Times media reporter Brian Selter has been picked by CNN to host Sunday's Reliable Sources.

As part of the hiring deal, Selter will no longer write for the NY Times, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The reporter will also appear on CNN Worldwide during the week as a senior media correspondent.

Reliable Sources' previous host, Howard Kurtz, left to join Fox News earlier in the year. Since then, the show has used a variety of temporary hosts to fill the gig for the time being.

CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker said in a statement, "Brian has emerged as one of the top media reporters in the country and will be a great addition to our many platforms."

Zucker added, "He grew up in the digital space, and has covered the media industry for his entire career. Brian has a keen understanding of this field - as both a journalist covering the industry and as an innovator."

The jump to CNN is a bit of a surprise since in July, Stelter said that he "would not leave the Times for a television job," The Washington Post reports. Though he did appear on Reliable Sources as a host during the guest hosting run.

The Post noted back then that Stelter would make a great host for the CNN show because he is only 27, which is great for demographics and had, at the time, over 190,000 Twitter followers, who might be inclined to watch and possibly tweet about the show.

Stelter also said at the time, "I hadn't thought about hosting a show in part because there's not shows to host."
