Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly announced that Nick Foles will be the starting quarterback for the Eagles on Tuesday. Foles will be the starter for the rest of the season, unless he gets injured.
Michael Vick won the starting job for the Eagles during training camp. Vick pulled a hamstring on October 6, and Foles took over. Since taking over, Foles has tied an NFL record with seven touchdowns in a game, and lead the Eagles on a three-game winning-streak, which has the Eagles, who are 6-5, in a first-place tie in the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN.
"Nick will be our starter," Kelly said. "Hopefully we get Mike back for a full week of practice, and he'll be the No. 2 guy this week."
The fact that Foles has been named the starter should come as no surprise. He had a passer rating of 152.8 in November, which was the highest rating for a month in NFL history. This season Foles has completed 63.6 percent of his passes, thrown for 1,554 yards with 16 touchdowns and no interceptions, according to NFL.com.
Vick, who has been medically cleared to play, is on a one-year contract. It is unknown when he will play again. Foles has two-years left on his rookie contract. Matt Barkley, who was a fourth-round pick this year, is expected to be the number two quarterback next season.
